Delete your Summited account
You can delete your Summited account and the data attached to it at any time, from the app or by email. You do not need the app installed to ask.
Email support@summited.app to delete your accountIn the app
Open the Account tab, tap the Settings button (the gear) at the top, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account, then confirm. You need to be online. Your account is deleted straight away.
By email
Email support@summited.app from the email address on your account, with the subject Delete my account. Tell us your handle if you know it. If you signed in with Apple and hid your email address, write from any address and include your handle, and we will confirm it is you before deleting anything.
We aim to delete your account within 7 days of your request, and always within 30 days. We will reply to confirm when it is done.
What is deleted
Deleting your account removes it from our servers along with everything attached to it:
- Your sign-in details: email address and any Google or Apple sign-in link.
- Your profile: handle, display name, bio, privacy setting and avatar.
- Your rounds: every summit and date, your notes, and where each round came from, including any Strava activity IDs.
- Your photos and their thumbnails.
- Follows and follow requests, both yours and other people's of you.
- Cheers you gave, and cheers on your days.
- Comments you wrote, and all comments on your days.
- Companion tags you made, and tags of you by others.
- Blocks you made.
- Your notifications and notification settings, and the push tokens for your phones.
What may remain for a short time
- Backups: we take our own encrypted backups of the database and stored files every week and before any database change, keep them encrypted in the UK or EU, and delete each one after 30 days. Your account can remain in these backups for up to 30 days after it is deleted, after which it is gone. Backups are only restored to recover from a failure, never to bring an account back, and deletions are reapplied after any restore.
- Photos: when you delete in the app, your photos and avatar are removed at the same time. If anything is missed, or if you asked by email, a server job removes them within a few hours.
- Crash reports: error reports in Sentry do not contain your content. A few that relate to deleting your photos include your internal account ID. Sentry deletes them automatically within 90 days.
- Reports: reports you sent, and reports made about you, are kept as moderation records, so abuse can be prevented and deleting an account cannot be used to evade moderation. An open (unresolved) report is kept even if the reporter or the reported member deletes their account. Once it is resolved, it is deleted 90 days after either member's account was deleted. So that it still makes sense after an account is gone, a report keeps a copy of the reported member's handle and the internal account IDs involved, and for a comment report, the comment text.
- Other members' phones: the app on other members' phones may show a cached copy of your profile or days until it next refreshes.
What is not deleted
- The logbook on your own phone. Summited is local-first, so deleting your account leaves your rounds on the phone you use. Uninstall the app to remove them.
- Your Strava connection. It lives only on your phone, never on our servers. Disconnect Strava in Settings before deleting your account, or revoke Summited in your Strava settings at any time.
- Rounds other members logged themselves, including summits they logged after you tagged them. Those belong to them.
- A Summited Pro subscription, if you have one. Cancel it in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings.
